Following decades of instability, Yemen has since 2011 suffered from a devastating war with tens of thousands killed and millions internally displaced.
About 24 million citizens, out of the total population of around 28 million, are in need of humanitarian assistance of one form or the other and close to two-thirds of the population live in extreme poverty.
The Yemeni people strongly deserves and desperately needs trade, jobs and income.
Yemen is known for its rich tradition in artisanal handicraft. These lanterns will provide a unique atmosphere to any garden or home.
The lanterns are designed and produced by traditional silversmiths and artisans, both women and men, from the Old City of Sana’a. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use they offer a beautiful light filtered through the thin fabric, as well as sparkling geometric light patterns filtered through the brass top and bottom pieces.
The production of the widely celebrated and loved Yemeni lantern came to a halt as Yemen experienced isolation and conflict, leaving the producers without customers meanwhile bringing the price of the raw materials up. warfair and the Yemen Journey has worked to re-establish the production and import the lanterns directly to the EU.
This is done in cooperation with Little Sun and the Little Solar Diamond lamp has been integrated into the design. This will provide a unique combination of ancient Yemeni handicraft and a modern climate-friendly solution.

The lanterns are available from November 2020.
